Biography —
Lynn Ellen Patyk is Associate Professor of Russian at Dartmouth College. She works at the intersection of culture, media studies, and political communication. Her first book, Written in Blood: Revolutionary Terrorism and Russian Literary Culture, 1861-1881 (a Choice Outstanding Title for 2018) argued that the scenarios, tropes, and types forged in 19th century Russian literature contributed to the emergence and reception of modern terrorism. At present she is working on a cultural history of provocation in Russia entitled The Art of Provocation, and under this umbrella is currently completing a more specific study on provocation as a mode of dialogue central to Dostoevsky’s novelistic art.
