Biography

Ingrid Kleespies is Associate Professor of Russian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Florida. She is the author of A Nation Astray: Nomadism and National Identity in Russian Literature (2012) and The Necessary Man: Petr Chaadaev and the Invention of Russian Literature (2026) and co-editor (with Lyudmila Parts) of Goncharov in the Twenty-First Century (2021). Her areas of interest include eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Russian literature and culture, Russian Romanticism, Decembrism, the history of emotions, mythologies around Siberia and the eastern “frontier,” and literature of travel and empire more generally. She is currently working on a project that examines the phenomenon of Cold War era reprints of nineteenth-century accounts of the Russian Empire.
